SESE: The Ecosystem of a Hedgerow
Did you know that Hedgerows are habitats for over 47 species? Some of which are endangered. During the month of June, we identified and examined the flora and fauna that live in the hedgerow across from our school. We now recognise how the actions of people cutting down hedgerows can have significant and detrimental impacts. Here are some pictures of us investigating the various flora and exploring any evidence we can find of fauna that may live there.
Tinfoil Embossed Art
During the months of May and June, we created tinfoil embossed art using cardboard, string, tinfoil and markers. Here are the finished products below, which really light up our classroom.
School Tour: Tanagh Adventure Centre
Rang 3, 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a brilliant day in Tanagh Adventure Centre for their school tour. They had a very positive experience as they engaged in many outdoor and adventure activities such as orienteering, obstacle courses, archery, canoeing and even a slippery slope. There were plenty of big (and mucky) smiles all around. Here are pictures and videos of the some of the madness!

Celebrations
Congratulations to all in rang 6 who celebrated their Confirmation in Roslea this month. May the gifts of the Holy Spirit help and guide rang 6 throughout life to make good choices, especially as they embark on the exciting transition into secondary school.
SESE and Art: Construction
During April we learned all about forces and movement. Friction is a force that acts against the movement of an object and slows it down. A type of friction that we were very interested in was air-resistance, as so many of us would love to sky-dive some day! Air-resistance is a type of friction that allows a sky-diver to land safely. In class we experimented with different types of materials to see which material would create the best type of parachute for our 'marble' to land safely. Here we are in action creating our parachutes.
It was very important for us to ensure this was a fair test when we were experimenting. This means that only one thing can change e.g. the type of material or the size of the material. We can only have one variable in our experiment to have a fair result.
Gaeilge agus Drámaíocht: Seó Faisean

Happy Valentine's Day From Rang 5 agus 6
In February, our class took a moment to reflect and give thanks for all the people in our lives who love and care for us every single day. We showed our appreciation for this love and support that we receive from them by creating a LOVE collage in fabric and fibre. Here are our end products.
English and Art: Reader's Theatre
In December, we used a strategy called 'reader's theatre' in our classroom. This involved reading out loud from a script in our pods. We decided that our main focus was to read with expression and using a steady pace (not too fast or too slow), to project our voice and of course, to get into character. We also created the 'stage backdrop' for our performance. We quickly sketched our initial ideas as this helped our pod to visualise different solutions and to choose the best direction for our backdrop. Here we are creating our backdrop and performing our reader's theatre in front of the class.
Christmas- A time to celebrate in song!
This year, due to Covid restrictions we could not put on our usual live performance for our families and friends. However, we did have a lot of fun working with rang 3 & 4 singing Christmas Carols. We hope you enjoy and we wish all our family and friends a happy and healthy Christmas.
History: Schools in the past
In November, we interviewed our parents and grandparents and asked them lots of questions about their time in primary school. We asked them about the resources, games, punishments and subjects that they had in school and how this was different to what we have now in Scoil Mhuire. We presented our findings within our pods and created a project together. Here we are creating our group project and presenting it to the rest of the class.
Art: Self Portraits
During October we focused on drawing self portraits. We cut a picture of ourselves in half, and drew the other half focusing on our main features. Here are some of the final products.
