50th International Eucharistic Congress- Ireland 2012
On the 15th of June 2012 Scoil Mhuire, Machaire Áirne and Scoil Mhuire, Gransha went to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in the RDS. We got the bus at the school at half past seven that morning. Although it was an early start everyone was on time. The journey to Dublin passed quickly and we soon arrived. Our guide met our bus and gave us all our IDs. Then she walked us to the hall where the Youth Mass was being held.
Once we were seated in the hall we sang warm up songs, there were actions to the songs and the words were on big screens so everyone could see them. After that the priest and the altar servers came out and the mass began. The congress bell rang. Then we sang ‘Though we are Many’ and ‘ Walk, Walk in the Light’. The priest welcomed us all. Throughout the mass we did actions to the songs. Children from different schools came up and did prayers and readings. Caoimhe Hurson and Róisín Hamill from our school did Prayers of the Faithful and Ryan Corley played the part of the Lost Sheep in the story of The Good Shepherd. We all received holy communion and the mass ended. The mass was very good and there were lots of interesting things happening. We really enjoyed the drama, liturgical dance and action songs.
On the way home we stopped at Burger King and had a delicious meal. We enjoyed the food very much. When we got back on the bus we had lots of fun listening to our ear piece radios which were part of our Eucharistic Congress packs and we sang together all the way home! We arrived home at about twenty to five and waited in the school hall until our parents came.
All the children enjoyed the day and we hope we can go again. Although Ms Groarke says we will be very old the next time the IEC is held in Ireland again. We would like to thank Ms Payne, Ms Groarke and Laura for taking us and a very big thank you to Father Flanagan for making it all possible. Contributed by Rang 5 & 6
