As part of Monaghan Cavan Science Festival, a lady called Catherine came to talk to us about how we can look after the environment.
Through Cavan Monaghan Science Festival, we also took part in a live webinar with Dublin Zoo called Working with Wildlife. We loved learning about the different animals in the zoo and how the zoo keeper takes care of them.
Halloween Dress Up
What fun we had dressing up for Halloween. Take a look at our photos from this year's Halloween party in Senior Infants and 1st Class. We hope we don't scare you too much!!!
Maths Week 2022
We had lots of fun in our class during Maths Week. We worked in groups on floor puzzles and we also played board games. Michaela Mohan visited our class to tell us all about how she uses maths in her businesses. In art we looked at the work of MC Escher. He used tessellations in his artwork. The way he used shapes and pattern was very clever. We made our own tessellation patterns. We also made pictures by cutting, arranging and sticking different shapes together. We played Maths games on the tablets too. We did an outdoor maths trail with some of the other classes. That was really fun. Mr McCague came in and played some music on his fiddle for us and taught us all about how he uses maths when playing music. We loved Maths Week. Maths is everywhere and it is fun!
Aerial View
We have been learning about aerial view in Geography this month. Another name for aerial view is Bird's Eye View. This is what we see when we look down on things from above, just like a bird flying up in the sky. We had great fun taking photos around the school from a bird's eye view. Take a look at our powerpoint and see if you can guess what objects we photographed from above.
In September we drew self-portraits. We looked at drawings of buildings and examined the 2D shapes used in the drawings. We then drew our own buildings using a variety of 2D shapes. We also cut out, arranged and glued some 2D shapes to make a building collage. Next we looked at and talked about the shapes of various buildings and tried to identify some of the 3D shapes in the buildings. We then brought in a variety of 3D shapes from home and constructed our own buildings using these 3D shapes. You can see some samples of September's work in the photos below.
In October we talked about shape, pattern and texture in familiar objects. We learned about MC Escher, an artist who was very famous for his print work. He used lots of pattern and tessellations in his prints. We completed some tessellation puzzles and designed some of our own tessellation patterns using paper and crayons. We also designed our own tessellations using the tablets. Next we made some of our own prints using different print making techniques. We made leaf rubbings using crayons. We went on a nature walk and found different patterns and textures to make rubbings, for example, bark, stone wall, brick wall, tarmac and manhole covers. Next we did some impression printing using leaves and paint. We enjoyed looking at our work and talking about it. You can see some samples of October's work in the photos below.
