For the months of November and December we have been learning all about Gymnastics. We have been practicing stretches, balances, rolls and even tumbles! We have learned how to move like animals and now we have the "Bear Walk" the "Crab Walk" and the "Caterpillar Walk" down to a fine art! Have a look below to see how brilliant we are.
Study of an artist - Andy Warhol
We have been learning about a famous artist called Andy Warhol. He was from America and he was famous during the 1960's. We learned that his artwork was known as "Pop Art" because this was an exciting time in popular culture when new types of music, books, art and movies were being created. Andy Warhol liked to paint ordinary items. A friend suggested that Andy Warhol paint something that was so common that people didn't see it as art. Warhol loved to eat soup, so he decided to paint cans of Campbell’s Soup.
There were many flavours of Campbell’s Soup at that time.
Andy Warhol bought all the different kinds and spent hours copying the cans onto a white background.
He painted the cans 32 times on one canvas! Each one was slightly different from the next!
We created our own pieces of artwork using everyday items. Our work was inspired by Andy Warhol's idea of using the "Campbell Soup" tins. We brought in labels from food packets and used these labels to base our designs around. Have a look below to see the results!
